Hankies and Pillow-talk Cushions
I've always enjoyed sewing, my grandmother taught how to use a machine when I was seven years old. Two summers ago I got to take a screen printing class at Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis and was able to combine two things I love: sewing and printing. I collected vintage bedsheets and other cheap fabric remnants to print on. Then I turn them into adorable girly things like pillows and handkerchiefs (shown here) or aprons and sundresses, handbags. etc. Unlike my other art, these pieces have no hidden symbolism or deep, dark and profound meaning...these are simply just aesthetically pleasing and functional little masterpieces. And fun!

Fun and functional, i love it. It makes me realize how far the art of printmaking can really go, and how many ways you can use it.
A fresh breeze and light touch are very important. I like the pollow-talk with the girl on the phone. I want to touch these, I love old cloth.
There is something really wonderful and tactile about sewing isn't there? Including prints with sewing and sewn forms seems to be a unique and intimate match. Really great to see this ingenuity.
I also forgot to say that I love how you're continuing to sew in reference to your grandmother and what she taught you. That is fantastic.
Not everything that artists make has to be deep and profound. It's great to be reminded of that! love how you are using vintage fabrics and remnants, very eco-friendly of you :)
I love these! This is such a wonderful idea!
It's so refreshing to see someone do something crafty and FUN!! I think it's also very important to take everyday things around you and make them your own. Screen printing sounds like a blast!

Kari, I love the whimsical approach in this work of yours! Ill bet you are a cool gal :)
love it. i am totally into this sort of thing. . . i think it's really interesting to make these every day objects and integrate either really deep meanings into them, or make them just aesthetically pleasing.
