long live good posture
The spine is the center of our bodies and when it is happy, we are healthy. The last decade has been an epidemic of failing health in the US, with the exception of Colorado (which is the LAST state to not be declared obese). I have been doing a lot of worrying about our future health, and therefore happiness. It's imperative that our spines are aligned/healthy to ensure the maximum amount of active playing so that we can be the best species that we are capable of being. Think of all the things you miss out on when you have poor posture! We need to take care of ourselves, for we only get one body! You don't have to add all that (you know how i can get all fired up about stuff like that haha). Im living in Vail as a ski instructor, and life is good. How can I complain? I still don't exactly know what I would like to do with the next four years, but i got offered a waterski coach job and yoga instructor at this resort for the upcoming summer.. so who knows. I am debating between a chiropractic career and an art professor career. AH! I miss the shop SO MUCH and am so grateful for everything I learned from it. I learned more from the shop of love about art and life than any other class I ever took in college.

Sitting upright is liberating, our being is more able to fully exist like you commented. I have certainly noticed the change in my life since I began sitting very upright. This print scares me because it makes me think 'back problems'. We have a foot and a half of lovely champagne snow here, it seems like we're in the the Rockies.
Amen to this! I have been a gymnast for most of my life which unfortunetaly means I have terrible posture and chronic back issues. Think of back in the day when children were taught to sit up straight, hopefully that will make a comeback.
I'm intoxicated by your lines Carly Jo. So delicate, fluid, and soft. Works well with this image and context. I like the contrast between this softness and the almost mechanical-looking depiction of the spinal cord. Miss you dear girl. I can picture you smiling right now. Have a blast out there in CO teaching skiing lessons. How fantastic.
I love this print. I saw it on your blog from last semester and was jealous I could get to see it in person. The difference in line quality between the human and the individual pieces of the spinal cord are beautiful and very thoughtful.
As someone who has already had one spinal surgery and then had the same disc herniate at the tender age of 21, I fully agree with this idea. Posture, and healthy back treatment in general, is so important for all people. I will always have a "bad back" (that is so depressing to say) but I know that if I treat is properly it won't limit me from accomplishing anything I want to do in my life. Thank you for making this beautiful print to remind people to "sit up straight!"
Awesome content Carly Jo and I love the detail you did in the vertebrae, looks rad.
I really like this print Carly. I love the connection between the images and the splash of yellow down in the corner. Like meaning behind the print as well.
KJ I miss you!!!! I am so happy for you in Vail! I try to carry your love and happiness in the shop while you are away. Thank you so much for visiting this semester! :~)
I had the honor of watching you create this litho...I never did find out what exactly it pertained to, but now that I have an explanation from you, I am pleased and content with the image. It reminds me a lot of my own mother...ha...she always hounded us as children to have good posture and to 'sit up straight'...it was always such a nagging thing for me...but she was right (as are you) health is a huge concern in this country and starting with a healthy and happy back is so important.
Your drawing skills never cease to amazing me. Incredible Carly Jo. Miss you like crazy!!!
what up carly? i've always admired your drawing abilities. the detail in the vertebrae is awesome.
Carly I loved this print last semester and I love it now. It is so beautiful in all aspects!
I love how the bones look, they're truly amazing! And i admire how concerned you are with the content of your print. A great thing to be concerned with and i feel like i learned a little something from reading this. Thanks for the visual and mental stimulation!
hot karl, LOVE your fluid expression of the figure mixed with the anatomical details. beautiful work
KJ!
I've always been jealous of your ability to capture the human figure in such a beautiful gesture. I really miss seeing you in the shop. I hope all is well on the ski hill!
Luh you!
Your gestural lines are beautiful. I really like how you have the tightly rendered lines of the bone structure right next to the soft flowing lines of the human form.
i have really bad posture
I like how the person in this drawing is very loosely drawn and the spin structures are so defined, it really adds to the content of the piece of how you said you spine is very important.
I can really relate to you image, and people dont think about taking care of their bodies as a way to happiness as much as they should. Once you set of spine out of whack, its a long hard way to get it back, but also a learning process. A very powerful image and I hope you continue with this subject. I'm also glad to hear you are living the life out in Colorado! The Yoga should also be a great help to your back!
damn grrrrrl. i miss ya! someday send me your address and i can send you a print that i've got lingering around here, waiting to get in your hands. i think you're pretty fabulous, and maybe someday our journeys will come together again. shop love.
oh Carly-
I love how your lines dance over the paper, and every print you make has that feel to it with your own lines! Hope CO is treating you well!
still love your beautiful work darling! hope all is well!
